FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN WAS THE MASTER’S CHRISTIAN ACADEMY STARTED?

Warriors Martial Arts Academy, formerly known as “Vortex Martial Arts”, has been in education since 1991. We started with evening martial arts classes for men, women, and children aged 4 and up. Then expanded to after-school programs and then summer camps.

We utilized martial arts, fitness, dance, parkour, and acrobatic gymnastics to develop character and teach life skills, languages, values, morals, ethics, and etiquette for many decades in two states.

In November 2018, the vision for Warriors Christian Academy was given to Scott Maczuga, the founder of Warriors, through much prayer. Since then, the Warriors corporate team has prayerfully continued to seek God’s will and direction on this project. We were excited and thrilled to have opened in Fall 2020 in Leander, TX! Warriors Christian Academy Leander finished its first year with more than 50 children enrolled from Pre-K through 9th grade. Today, Warriors Christian Academy has grown to hundreds of students from Cedar Park, TX.

At the end of the 2023-2024 school year, we refocused our efforts on excellence and chose to utilize a classical Christian curriculum in that pursuit. We now have the Trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric from the classical Christian Curriculum) and the Gymnasium (individual sports, such as martial arts) as our two core pillars as our tools for excellence. To outwardly reflect this change, we are re-branding as The Master’s Christian Academy starting in the 2024-2025 school year.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ENROLLING MY CHILD(REN) IN THE MASTER’S CHRISTIAN ACADEMY?

We have small to medium-sized classrooms of 12-22 which allows for more individualized attention and the ability to cater to the individual child’s needs. Sometimes we may exceed that number by a few if we are in the process of splitting a class.

Because we stress a Christian Biblical worldview supported by a mixed martial arts culture, our kiddos are immersed in an environment that produces excellence and does not support unhealthy lifestyles. Issues like bullying, drugs, alcohol, and alternative sexual preferences or identity, are not tolerated. We focus on a Biblical, Godly lifestyle that must be modeled in our Academy at all times.

As such, we have seen 28 students and 3 parents come to Christ over the past three years. We are sure this number will continue to grow with enrollment. We are grateful for the work God is doing through Warriors Christian Academy.

WHY THE NAME OF THE MASTER’S AND WHAT’S THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND CHOOSING IT?

“Warriors” stems from the philosophy that we must be willing and able to fight: not just spiritually, but morally, mentally, and physically for biblical truth, but additionally, for the right as Christians to live and share that truth.

Saint Augustine said “The right thing is the right thing even if no one is doing it. The wrong thing is the wrong thing even if everyone is doing it.” We aim to raise leaders that know and practice this, and inspire others to do the same!

WHAT CURRICULUM DOES THE MASTER’S CHRISTIAN ACADEMY USE AND DO YOU HAVE IN-CLASSROOM TEACHERS?

At The Master’s Christian Academy, we are proud to be a classical Christian school. Classical Christian school usually only have the Trivium as an offering, where the Trivium is the focus on grammar, logic and rhetoric. We also have the Gymnasium, which is explained in greater detail on our curriculum page.

For smaller classrooms or combined classrooms, we utilize a self-paced, self-motivated, and self-directed approach to learning called ACE (Accelerated Christian Education). This comprehensive Christian program covers all grade levels, providing flexibility and autonomy in the learning process.

With the ACE curriculum, we emphasize the concept of mastery before promoting students to the next level of learning. Each PACE packet requires a test grade of 80% or higher, ensuring that students fully grasp the subject matter and develop a strong foundation for future learning. As a result, Warriors Christian Academy students who join us on grade level have the potential to advance a year to a year and a half beyond their public school peers upon completing our program.

  • ACE curriculum for Kinder – 12th, where we can meet them where they are through diagnostic testing
  • Uses actual workbooks, reading, and writing to learn educational concepts
  • Been around for 54 years and is a rock-solid Christian curriculum
  • Teaches Honesty, integrity, personal responsibility, goal setting, and completion, and parents are intimately involved in goal setting
  • Classroom supervisor(s) there to assist if there are questions
  • Homework is only required if daily goals are not met as prescribed by parents and student

In addition to the ACE curriculum, we also offer a classically flavored teacher-led Christian curriculum that instills a strong Biblical worldview foundation. This program is available for students at various grade levels, spanning from Middle School to High School only in Cedar Park for now. Our dedicated teachers lead these classes, fostering an environment where students can engage with the curriculum content and develop their verbal communication and writing skills.

  • Teacher-led
  • Uses syllabus and grading rubric, created by the teacher, for class learning goals
  • Kids are graded fairly according to their abilities and parents’ instructions
  • Homework will be minimal to none
  • Utilizes Classical concepts for teaching methodology
  • “Grammar” in elementary school which focuses on memorization to learn the factual foundation of each subject
  • “Logic” in middle school teaches children in the logic stage to think and analyze critically and to argue well by arranging facts into organized statements and arguments. Socratic discussion in class is introduced at this stage.
  • “Rhetoric” is used in high school. Once a student has obtained knowledge of the facts (grammar), and developed the skills necessary to arrange those facts into organized arguments (logic), the student develops the skill of effectively communicating those arguments to others (rhetoric). Socratic dialogue is used extensively at this stage.
  • Kids are graded by teachers fairly, not equally, according to parent expectations and the child’s capacity.

We invite you to join our community and discover the enriching opportunities that await your child’s educational and spiritual growth.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DECIDE TO UNENROLL MY CHILD BEFORE OUR TUITION AGREEMENT EXPIRES?

While we understand that circumstances change, contractual obligations remain. We approach each situation on a case-by-case basis, always prioritizing the school’s fiscal responsibility.

Contractually agreed-upon annual tuition is the only thing that fuels the Warriors Christian Academy mission. We hire teachers and administrators based on that commitment. If, for any reason, someone chooses to unenroll before their tuition agreement expires, they are still responsible for the total amount of the unpaid balance of their tuition and any other outstanding balance on their account.

At the academy’s discretion, we might allow a smaller payment to settle the account. But if fees remain unpaid, we won’t release any student records, including transcripts, and might involve our legal team and collections.

We understand that sometimes the school is not a good fit for the family, or the family is not a good fit for the school. We take these situations on a case-by-case basis. Warriors administration always does its best to come to a fair solution, but also keeps at the forefront a fiscal responsibility to the school itself and the students who continue to love, need, and attend Warriors.

DO YOU OFFER FINANCIAL AID / TUITION ASSISTANCE?

Limited financial aid/tuition assistance is available. Click here to apply.

WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM A FAMILY RECEIVING TUITION ASSISTANCE OR SPECIAL PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS?

At Warriors Christian Academy, we believe in fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility among all families, including those receiving tuition assistance or special payment arrangements. To maintain the integrity of our educational mission and ensure the sustainability of our programs, we have outlined the following expectations:

  • Required service hours or pay the tuition difference between what has been worked and full tuition. If you cannot or will not help DO NOT APPLY.
  • Support ALL fundraisers by bringing people to participate, and working each event. If you are unable to attend an event, we ask that you inform us promptly and provide a reason for your absence.
  • Always be on the lookout for someone who understands, and believes in the mission. If these people are financially capable, then you should make an introduction to us so that we can explain what a stakeholder or giving partner relationship would look like.
CAN YOU DEFINE MASTERS?

The Master’s Christian Academy is “The Peoples Christian School”. That means we are not just here for the elite. We are here for all students. Not only are we patriotic and loyal to the vision of the founding fathers of this country, but we love and respect our first responders like military and vets, police officers, firefighters, and EMS workers. We share an unapologetic Christian faith and are the only private Christian School in the area that will accept a child who doesn’t know the love of Christ, as long as one parent is fully on board with us leading them to Jesus. We have three pillars that our school is built on. Number one is “Salvation through Jesus Christ”. Our second pillar is to provide a personalized, custom education for every child and level. Our third pillar is the martial arts which develop respect, determination, character, leadership, self-discipline, and focus. These three pillars are non-negotiable if accepted at Warriors. Warriors takes all students, loves them, and guides them to overcome life’s challenges.

IS MASTERS SUITABLE FOR ALL STUDENTS?

Yes and no:

  • You don’t need to be a straight “A” student – but we are not a special needs school.
  • You don’t need to be a Christian – but at least one parent/guardian needs to be on board with Warriors leading the child to Christ.
  • You don’t have to be a super athlete – but everyone must have the physical and mental capacity to participate in the martial arts.
  • We welcome everyone – but not all ideologies. We do not support, teach, or allow any sort of communist ideology to influence our children unless it is to show its failures throughout history.
  • If you are looking for an Ivy League Christian School, then that is not us. There are plenty of those all around us. Ministry is messy, and so is helping to raise imperfect kids to follow a perfect God. This takes a lot of love, discipline, and patience, that comes from years of dripping and molding. We have been in the thick of turning lives to Christ, creating a love for learning where it had heavily diminished, and developing confidence through martial arts. This is where we thrive!
  • We absolutely do not believe in, nor implement any sort of diversity, equity, and inclusion policies or training for our staff. We love everyone with the love of Jesus Christ. The best person gets the job. This is determined, not by skin color, but by the conduct of their character, and their commitment to Christ.
  • We do not support the alphabet mobs or unbiblical lifestyles. Everyone at Warriors is a sinner in need of the Savior. But there is a difference between acknowledging our sinful nature, repenting, and doing our best to turn away from that sin, versus embracing open rebellion against God and supporting a blatantly sinful lifestyle, in the name of tolerance. We teach that no one is beyond the reach, grace, forgiveness, and love of God.
WHAT SETS THE MASTER’S CHRISTIAN ACADEMY APART?

Our uniqueness lies in our evangelical approach, our commitment to meeting students academically where they are, and our integration of high-end mixed martial arts into our curriculum.

We are the only evangelical school in the area that will take in non-Christians and lead them to Jesus. We have a classroom culture that meets kids where they are academically. We are the only Christian School in the nation and possibly the world using high-end mixed martial arts as their main PE credit. We do not kick kids out of school because of challenges they may have. We fix those challenges as long as the parents partner with us.

WILL THE ACADEMY INTRODUCE MORE ACTIVITIES AS IT GROWS?

Yes, as we expand, we’ll introduce more programs. This year we started sports clubs starting with cross country, wrestling, and track for both Cedar Park and Georgetown locations. We have also launched our theater and choir programs. Other options for fine arts are also in the research and development phase.

WHAT DOES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY TIME LOOK LIKE AND HOW ABOUT OUTDOOR ACTIVITY?

It is vitally important that children have plenty of physical activity during their learning days. Not only will they have structured physical disciplines like martial arts, but they will have frequent unstructured, but properly supervised, recess times. Studies consistently show that ADD/ADHD trends are much lower and oftentimes go away when children have more physical work and playtime.

In addition, we take a very European/Nordic view of children in nature. The more students can explore outside, staying in touch with nature, the healthier they become physically and mentally.

WHAT DOES THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS LOOK LIKE?

For an overview of the admissions process, select the admissions menu at the top, or click here.

If there is a waiting list for a class or grade, preference will first be given to families that already have children at The Master’s Christian Academy, then those attending Masters Martial Arts evening classes, and finally to brand new families.

WHO CAN APPLY TO THE MASTER’S CHRISTIAN ACADEMY?

As long as at least one parent is on board with the main goal of The Master’s Christian Academy, which is to lead the child/student to Christ, an application can be submitted for your student to attend our academy.

WHAT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENTS / GUARDIANS VS THE SCHOOL, IN THE CHILD’S EDUCATION?

There has been a growing challenge in our country around who is responsible for a child attaining an excellent education. I would like to start by acknowledging that the educational model of public schools has been radically flawed for decades. To be clear, this is not to say that there aren’t excellent teachers all over the place. It is the educational model that we are referring to.

The schools and teachers should not bear all of the responsibility for failed students. We as parents, expect that if our kids are in school 8 or more hours a day, that they should be taught, move forward in their learning, and thrive academically. But what do we do with apathetic students who do not have parents who motivate them to perform? What do we do with kids that are disrespectful to classmates and faculty? They may be class clowns, ADD or ADHD, or simply unmotivated since there are truly no consequences for their lack of effort. How do we as a community solve these challenges? Blaming the school or the underpaid and overworked teachers and administrators is rarely the answer.

At Warriors, we must partner together and communicate frequently and openly about the strengths and weaknesses of your children. This open communication and true collaboration between school and family can yield wonderful results. But it takes time. It is the parent’s responsibility to hold their children responsible when they are failing to do the work expected of them by the school. It is the school’s responsibility to communicate frequently, openly, honestly, and lovingly about where the child is in their learning. The students must be motivated, influenced, and inspired by both the parents and the school in various ways, depending on the student’s needs, to meet their highest potential. There must be a threefold balance between good teachers and curriculum, parent support for the school, and students who choose to learn.

The job of the school is to teach the student, the job of the student is to do the work and learn, and the job of the parent is to support BOTH the teacher and the student. If we all do our part then your children will have an EXCELLENT educational experience at Warriors.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS OF YOUR TEACHING STAFF AT THE MASTER’S CHRISTIAN ACADEMY?

At The Master’s Christian Academy, we take pride in the qualifications and dedication of our teaching staff. All our teachers hold at least a four-year college degree and are certified to teach in the state of Texas. Our learning centers are supervised by educators known as Monitors, as per the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum, which is designed to be effectively delivered without the necessity of a college degree.

In addition to their academic and professional qualifications, all our teaching staff are designated as Ministers of Education. Their primary mission is to minister to our students and lead them to Christ, reflecting our commitment to integrating faith and learning.

We are committed to the continuous development of our staff. We provide annual training in both the classical Christian curriculum and the ACE curriculum, as well as annual student safety training on the gun range. Additionally, we conduct multiple trainings throughout the school year to ensure our educators are well-equipped to meet the needs of our students.

Furthermore, we ensure the safety and integrity of our school environment by requiring all staff members, including non-teaching personnel, to pass a comprehensive background check.
